چکیده

The two-break unit root test of Lumsdaine and Papell (1997) is examined and found to suffer from bias and spurious rejections in the presence of structural breaks under the null. A two-break minimum LM unit root test is proposed as a remedy. The two-break LM test does not suffer from bias and spurious rejections and is mostly invariant to the size, location, and misspecification of the breaks. We test the Nelson and Plosser (1982) data and find fewer rejections of the unit root than Lumsdaine and Papell. JEL classification: C12, C15, and C22

Two-Step LM Unit Root Tests with Trend-Breaks

In this paper, we consider and examine the performance of two-step LM unit root tests with trend-breaks. In the first step, we jointly test for the existence and location of breaks using a maximum F-test. In the second step, we utilize the identified breaks and test for a unit root. A transformation procedure is adopted so that the tests with trend-breaks are invariant to nuisance parameters. W...

Minimum LM Unit Root Test with One Structural Break

In this paper, we propose a minimum LM unit root test that endogenously determines a structural break in intercept and trend. Critical values are provided, and size and power properties are compared to the endogenous one-break unit root test of Zivot and Andrews (1992). Nunes, Newbold, and Kuan (1997) and Lee and Strazicich (2001) previously demonstrated that the Zivot and Andrews test exhibits...

Exploring the Relationship between Consumer Credits and Interest Rates in Turkey: A Fractional Cointegration Analysis

This paper investigates the relationship between consumer credits and interest rates in Turkey based on the fractional cointegration approach by using daily observations over the period from 4 January 2002 to 24 December 2010. First, we ignore the possible structural breaks in the series and perform the Geweke and Porter-Hudak (GPH) test on the residuals for fractional cointegration. Second, we...

Stationarity of health expenditures and GDP: evidence from panel unit root tests with heterogeneous structural breaks.

This paper re-examines the stationarity of national health care expenditures and GDP in a panel setting utilizing data from 20 OECD countries over the period from 1960 to 1997. Previous research in this area has recognized the drawback of not allowing for structural breaks in their unit root tests and noted that their empirical results may not be robust. We advance the literature by utilizing a...
